About This Call
The Solano Transportation Authority is seeking sculptors from western region states to create public art for the new STA Office Building in Suisun City. The building will serve as the center of transportation for seven cities and rural areas of the county.
The STA Building Oversight Committee seeks artwork that will become an iconic and dynamic symbol for the new headquarters. Located in downtown Suisun near the harbor, the artwork should be interactive for pedestrians while visually enhancing the building and streetscape. Possible themes include transportation modes, history of transportation, or the evolution of transportation. The work should convey mobility and motion rather than feel static.
Materials must be permanent and durable for an urban environment, repairable in case of extreme events, and resistant to graffiti and vandalism. Both day and nighttime appearance should be considered. The scope includes design, engineering, fabrication, delivery, insurance, and installation of two or more sculptures along Main Street. The total budget is $150,000. A five-member jury will select five finalists, who will each receive a $1,000 honorarium for completing design proposals. The selection committee reserves the right to select a single artist or multiple artists and divide the budget accordingly. Finalists will be provided additional technical information, terms and conditions, and the opportunity to research the site and community before submitting proposals.
