About This Call
Light Art Space invites submissions for "Solace in Nature," an exhibition of hand-made photographic prints using alternative and historic processes. The exhibition explores how nature provides quiet and calm in times of uncertainty, encouraging artists to slow down and reconnect with what is important.
All submitted works must be hand-made prints created by the artist using alternative photographic processes including, but not limited to: silver gelatin, platinum/palladium, albumen, cyanotype, gum bichromate, wet-plate collodion, photogravure, carbon, vandyke brown, traditional printmaking, instant transfers and lifts, and hand-manipulated (altered surface) digital prints. Combinations of these processes are welcome. Digital negatives are acceptable in creating these processes, but straight inkjet (digital) prints and AI-derived works are not eligible. All entries must have been created in the last 4 years. Light Art Space particularly invites LGBTQ, Black, Latinx, Indigenous, and self-identifying artists of color to submit.
Work must arrive ready to hang but framing is not required; magnets, clips, and other methods can be used. Artists must include instructions for alternative presentations. The juror is Christina Z. Anderson, a photographer and author specializing in contemporary vanitas and 19th century photographic processes. Entry fee is $40 for 3 images, with $5 for each additional image up to 10 total. Full-time students receive a $20 discount with coupon code "Student." Deadline for submissions is June 23, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Notification of acceptance will be sent June 28th. Work is due at Light Art Space by July 22nd. The exhibition opens August 1st with a reception Friday, August 2nd from 5-7 p.m., and runs through October 5th, 2024. Sales are encouraged; Light Art Space retains a 50% commission on sold artwork.
