Society of Watercolor Artists - 2021 International Juried Exhibition

This is the 40th Anniversary of the Society of Watercolor Artists. The annual International Juried Exhibition is the largest event held each year and is open to all artists working in water-based media. The exhibition will be posted online. Juror: Andy Evansen (AWS, PAPA, RRWS, TWSA). Awards: $5,000 in cash and merchandise to be determined by the juror after viewing the final posted works.

Artist Eligibility: Open to artists 18 years of age and older. International entries are welcome. Membership in SWA is not necessary for entry. Entry fee is $35 for SWA Members and $45 for non-members. Artists may submit up to 3 paintings; no more than one painting chosen by the juror will be exhibited. Work Sample Requirements: Submit 1-3 images.

Artwork Requirements: Original artwork only. Work must be water-media on watercolor paper or Yupo, including traditional watercolors, acrylics, inks, or gouache. Inks cannot cover more than 10% of the surface. No works on canvas or other materials. Artwork must have been completed in the last 3 years (after March 2018) and cannot have been shown previously in any SWA juried art exhibitions. The following are not permitted: collage, nudes, work done during a workshop or class that is not original subject matter, copies or likenesses of another artist's artwork, digital reproductions or use of web/online photographs, or digital/printer reproductions printed onto artwork surface. Paintings copied from commercial or published photographs, other artist's work, or computer-produced work will not be exhibited. SWA reserves the right to refuse entries that are obscene, controversial, or in bad taste.

Important Dates: Entry Deadline: March 30, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Notification of Acceptance: April 16 (via email). Exhibition posted online: April 17. Announcement of Juror's Awards: May 2. Exhibition runs April 18 through May 30, 2021. SWA retains a 25% commission on all works sold. Entrants may mark paintings as Not For Sale. Entries not clearly marked with a price are considered not for sale. Prices cannot be changed after the entry process. Entrants and sponsors receive a complementary catalog.
