About This Call
Artist Mentor Project (AMP) of San Diego announces its first juried exhibition, SoCal's Best Upstarts and Innovators, open to artists living in Southern and Baja California working in 2-D visual media. The exhibition seeks exceptional emerging and mid-career artists who bring fresh and innovative work. The exhibition will be on display August 13 - September 2, 2021 at the Expressions Gallery at the Escondido Municipal Gallery, 262 E. Grand Ave, Escondido, CA 92025, with a reception and announcement of winners on August 14th from 5:30-8:00 pm.
Eligibility is open to artists residing in Southern and Baja California over the age of 18. Each artist may submit a minimum of 2 paintings for $35, with an additional $10 fee for each entry beyond the first two (up to 5 total entries). All entries must be original without teacher assistance. The minimum artwork size is 8" x 10" and the maximum is 48" w x 60" h. Selected artists must bring their work to the gallery during designated drop-off times: Saturday August 7 from 11:00 am - 3:45 pm or Tuesday August 10th from 11:00 am - 4:45 pm. Two-dimensional work must be wired and ready to hang.
Dr. Deborah Williams, owner and curator of Fresh Paint Gallery in La Jolla, CA, will serve as juror. Awards include First Place ($350), Second Place ($200), Third Place ($100), and three Honorable Mention Awards ($25 each). Juror selections will be communicated via CAFE during the week of 7/26/21. Escondido Municipal Gallery will retain 20% commission on any work sold during the exhibition. Selected artists must submit a signed agreement and W9 at the time of delivery. The show has been generously sponsored by a grant from the Negri Foundation.
