About This Call
Laramie Public Art Coalition (LPAC) and the City of Laramie are seeking two existing artworks for the Snowy Range Rotating Sculpture Program, the second rotation of the program. Two sculpture pads exist on the Snowy Range viaduct, a connector between the east and west sides of Laramie. The sculpture pads serve as a gateway to the city, welcoming visitors and residents to Downtown and all points west. Two existing artworks will be selected for temporary installation from August 2024 to summer 2027 on loan to the City of Laramie. The ideal artwork will be eye-catching from a distance and speak to the community as a welcoming and creative place. The work must withstand the harsh weather of southeast Wyoming, including high winds.
The budget for each sculpture pad is $15,000, inclusive of artist fee, installation and deinstallation, artwork transportation, artist travel, and object insurance during travel. The west side sculpture pad is 10 feet in diameter; the east side sculpture pad is 6 feet in diameter. Artists must provide a maintenance manual detailing how to care for the artwork throughout the display period. The City of Laramie will provide general liability insurance for the artwork during display and work with LPAC on maintenance.
A selection committee including City representatives and community members will determine finalists. Each finalist will be paid $250 to participate in a virtual presentation on June 11 at 6 PM MT. Community members will provide feedback to the selection committee, which will make the final decision. Artists will be notified by June 28, 2024, with artworks installed by end of August 2024. Submissions must include artist statement (up to 2000 characters), 2-4 images of the artwork, artwork dimensions, title, year of completion, previous installation sites (if applicable), materials, installation method, weight, 100-word statement about the artwork, and resume/CV. Open to artists residing in the United States, ages 18 and over. Artists residing in Wyoming and Indigenous artists are encouraged to apply.
