About This Call
Laramie Public Art Coalition (LPAC) and the City of Laramie are seeking two existing artworks for a rotating sculpture program on the Snowy Range Bridge, which connects the east and west sides of Laramie. Two sculpture pads were installed during WYDOT construction of the bridge and serve as a gateway to the city and Downtown. The selected artworks will be temporarily installed from 2021 to 2024 and will be on loan to the City of Laramie for the duration.
The selection committee seeks artwork that addresses Community Voices and can withstand the harsh weather of southeast Wyoming, including high winds. Community feedback identified four themes: Laramie History (Union Pacific Railroad construction and women's suffrage), Indigenous Culture (honoring the Cheyenne and Arapaho peoples), Community Pride (Hispanic heritage, the Black 14), and Nature (wind, wildflowers, pronghorn, and the Snowy Range). The west side sculpture pad is 10 feet in diameter; the east side pad is 6 feet in diameter.
The budget for each sculpture pad is $19,000, inclusive of artist fee, installation and deinstallation, transportation, travel, signage, and insurance during travel. An additional $1,000 honorarium will be provided for a community engagement opportunity. The City of Laramie will provide general liability insurance and work with LPAC on maintenance. Artists must provide a maintenance manual for their work. Open to artists residing in the United States; artists residing in Wyoming and Indigenous artists are encouraged to apply. Artist teams are welcome. Submit up to three completed artworks with CV (up to three pages), biography (up to one page), website, and for each artwork: at least two images (up to four), dimensions, title, year of completion, previous installation sites, materials, installation method, weight, and description of how the work addresses Community Voices (up to one page).
