About This Call

The Town of Snowmass Village Arts Advisory Board (SAAB) is seeking a unique public art installation to be located near Town Park Station, adjacent to the main park and sports-related recreational complex within the village. The site is flat and unobstructed with great solar exposure, surrounded by medium-sized evergreen and deciduous vegetation. It is adjacent to the main parking lot (500 spaces) serving the Snowmass Ski Area and the free Village Shuttle system which serves over 1,000,000 visitors annually. The site dimensions are approximately 30' x 50'. Snowmass Village is located in the Elk Mountain Range of the Rocky Mountains at an elevation of approximately 9,300'.

Professional visual artists at least 18 years of age are eligible to apply; Colorado artists are encouraged to apply. Full-time, permanent Town of Snowmass Village employees, Town consultants, and SAAB members are ineligible. The RFQ submission deadline is March 21, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Submissions must include: a letter of interest (500 words max.), current resume, bio, and statement of qualifications, a minimum of five and a maximum of ten jpeg images representative of your body of work with title, dimensions, materials, budget, and location information, and three professional references. One optional video file may be submitted. Questions regarding the project should be submitted by February 28, 2019 to Brian McNellis at [email protected].

The selected artist will receive a stipend of up to $100,000 to cover all costs including design, materials, fabrication, lighting, engineering, travel, transportation, maintenance schedule, and coordination with the Public Works Department for installation. The artist is responsible for transporting the artwork and coordinating installation, but the Town will contribute additional funds toward site engineering and installation costs. Selected finalists will be notified by April 1, 2019 and will be eligible to submit a detailed proposal. An honorarium of $500 each will be given to second and third place artists. Materials and designs must be durable enough to withstand severe weather, high winds, and high snow accumulation. The artwork should be designed to discourage theft and vandalism, be appropriate in size and height to the site, and be planned with illumination for visibility day and night.
