About This Call
Snapshot America is a call for entries to capture photographs of the United States in 2024. The Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts is seeking images of your community, friends, neighborhood, local events, landmarks, and everyday activities that represent daily life in America. The goal is to create a time capsule documenting the unique times we live in, capturing what your America looks like and what best represents the city or town you live in.
Submitted images should fall within the broad genre of street photography, meaning they should be candid, direct captures that have not been digitally manipulated beyond commonly accepted journalistic standards such as adjusting exposure, contrast, color saturation, and sharpening. Selected works will be presented in a gallery exhibition with an expanded collection published in book form. The exhibition runs October 17 through November 15, 2024, with a reception and awards on October 17 at 5:00-8:00 p.m.
Artists of all levels who are at least 18 years old are invited to enter. Up to 10 photographs may be submitted. Entry fee is $25 for the first image and $15 for each subsequent image. Current RICPA members receive a 20% discount. Work must be original, exhibition-ready, and not exceed 48 inches including the frame. In-person delivery of accepted work is October 12, noon to 5:30 p.m., or by appointment. Shipped work must arrive by October 12 with a prepaid return label. The Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts retains a 40% commission on works sold (20% for Supporting & Exhibiting members). Curation will be managed by David DeMelim, Curator and Managing Director, with assistance from educators, members, and curators. For questions, contact [email protected].
