About This Call

Society of North American Goldsmiths presents "Shifting Sites," the 2016 Juried Exhibition in Print produced by Metalsmith magazine. This exhibition showcases works that explore the changing spaces of jewelry and metal objects as they are conceived, made, and displayed. Jurors Eva Eisler, Lauren Fensterstock, and Lori Talcott are seeking examples that address fluid boundaries in the production, subject matter, and siting of current metalwork and that creatively engage with their environment. The emphasis is on location or place as subject or actual space for the creation and display of work, including where work is shown or sold, where it is worn or used, where it has environmental impact, and where it is made. As a subject for metalsmithing, "site" can be understood as geography, landscape, cityscape, or references to natural settings, architecture, urban or rural spaces.

Eligibility is open to all SNAG members 18 years of age or older, including jewelers, designers, metalsmiths, and students. Applicants need not reside in the United States. All work must be original and produced within the last three years (2012 or later). Objects made from commercial kits or commercially available plans are not eligible. The entry fee is $35 (non-refundable). Applicants must submit 2-6 images (both detail and general shots for each piece, up to 3 pieces total), along with title, material, dimensions, year of completion, an artist statement (1000 character limit), and a one-page resume. Submission deadline is February 22, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Notification will be sent by email in March 2016, with high-quality jpegs due to the editor by March 31, 2016. The Exhibition in Print 2016 will be published in August 2016. By submitting images, artists agree that Metalsmith magazine and SNAG have the right to retain and duplicate these images for marketing, publishing, and display on the SNAG website and e-newsletters, with no compensation required.
