SNA Mural AREA 2 Semifinalists' Proposal

This is a second-round proposal submission for semifinalists in the SNA Mural competition. Semifinalists have been selected based on their initial submissions and will each receive a $500 award. The winning finalist for AREA 2 will be selected from the semifinalist proposals and will receive a $5,000 commission for their design and project completion.

Proposals must be site-specific designs for AREA 2, located on the Extra Space Storage building at 141 McBride Street, Jamaica Plain, MA. AREA 2 consists of three ground-level square panels on the east facade (three panels, 121 sq ft each, 11 x 11' each). Designs should be reflective of Jamaica Plain—its community, history, or other tangible or intangible aspects. Visual style may be abstract, representational, or anything in between, and must be viewable from a range of distances. The murals will be visible to English High School students and the general public.

Submission materials must be uploaded to CaFÉ by July 13, 2021 at midnight and include: artist statement (up to 2,000 characters); theme/concept description (up to 3,000 characters); community involvement details if applicable (up to 2,000 characters); publicity availability confirmation (up to 2,000 characters); up to 3 letters of reference from previous large-scale projects; up to 15 jpg images of the to-scale design (5mb per file); and an image key (one page maximum). Do not include artist name in any submitted documents or filenames. Final artwork must be submitted in Adobe Illustrator or PDF vector format. Finalists will be notified by August 14, 2021.
