About This Call
The Smoky Hill River Festival will celebrate its 50th year in historical Oakdale Park in Salina, KS. The Festival features roving acts, three stages for musical performances, a children's area, over 30 food vendors, interactive art activities for all ages, and art installations throughout the park with approximately 130 exhibiting and demonstration artists. Festival attendance draws 60,000 people over the weekend. The show presents an exceptional collection of original fine arts and crafts, and an onsite jury determines over $9,000 in awards.
The festival strives to curate a well-balanced show that features a diverse range of media, price points, and aesthetic styles, encompassing contemporary fine art, fine craft, and traditional crafts. Artists in all media are welcome, including those who explore new technologies, challenge conventional art practices, and offer unique perspectives through their studio work. Applications open August 22, 2025 with early bird pricing ($35 non-refundable application fee) through October 1, 2025. Regular pricing begins October 2, 2025 ($45 non-refundable application fee). Applications close December 15, 2025, with jury notifications sent February 9, 2026.
The festival runs Friday, June 12 through Sunday, June 14, 2026, with setup on Thursday, June 11. Artists receive exclusive Thursday night party access, Friday morning patron preview shopping, onsite parking, 24-hour security, weather tracking, and assistance with load-in and load-out. Over $11,000 in cash awards are given, including $2,000 for the Purchase Partner Program where the City of Salina purchases original artwork for its permanent collection. Award winners receive automatic invitations for the following year. All artwork must be original, designed, and executed by the accepted artist, with work available for sale during the festival.
