Smart Objects / Flattened Images

Smart Objects and Flattened Images seeks photographic works that explore the overlapping of the artificial and the real within this hyper-digital age. Works can integrate both digital and analog material, celebrate appropriation or repetition, weave in internet-based found imagery, unabashedly manipulate photographs in post-production, or sit on the fence between the virtual and physical world. The exhibition looks for work that offers a contemporary perspective on the world by exploring the distinction between our physical and corporeal experiences and our digital, cerebral ones.

Submit a brief statement along with 1-5 images of your work. Photography or works that address photography are preferred, but all mediums that address the exhibition theme will be considered. Video is accepted only if the artist can provide the technology for viewing (computer, monitor, projector, iPad, etc.). Work must arrive by Monday, August 29, 2022. Prefer unframed work unless the frame is part of the piece. Work will be installed with magnets unless otherwise communicated.

The exhibition runs September 3-25, 2022 at Well Well Projects, an artist-run gallery in North Portland, Oregon, inside the Oregon Contemporary complex. Entry fee is $25. Open to all artists 18 years of age or older. Artists receive 100% from any work sold and are responsible for picking up or shipping work, including providing a return shipping label.
