About This Call
Sloan's Lake Park is a 295-acre regional park featuring a lake setting with recreational activities including field sports, tennis, roller hockey, walking, running, bicycling, inline skating, boating and picnicking. The park is undergoing development including reconstruction of the northwest corner entryway at 25th & Sheridan with a new parking lot and landscaping, and planned reconstruction of the north marina area with a new landmark pavilion, pedestrian promenade, benches, decorative lighting, historic stone walls, and up to 60 rental slips for small boats.
The Denver Office of Cultural Affairs is seeking artists for public art projects at two potential locations: the prominent corner area of 25th & Sheridan, where artists may integrate 3D artworks or design elements with the landscape architecture design team; and the marina area, where artists may suggest 3D, kinetic or way-finding artworks. Artwork must be highly durable, extremely low-maintenance, and able to withstand Denver's severe weather including hot summers and heavy snowfalls. Finalists will have the opportunity to spend time at the site with members of the design team to identify specific locations for artwork.
Applicants may apply as a single artist or multi-person collaboration. The selection process will identify up to three semi-finalists, each receiving an honorarium of $500 to prepare and present a final proposal. The total contract awarded to the selected artist or artist team is approximately $20,000, inclusive of all costs including design fee, consultation fees, structural engineering, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, travel, per diem, and project documentation. Applicants must submit eight digital images of previously completed artwork, a letter of interest of no more than 250 words, and a current résumé of no more than two pages. Artists submitting kinetic or sound works must also submit a DVD or VHS tape of no more than five minutes. A pre-submission meeting will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at Sloan's Lake Park (25th & Sheridan). Contact Mary Valdez at [email protected] or 720-865-4313 to RSVP or for additional information.
