About This Call
Slice is a juried exhibition open to California artists in all media. Now in its 7th year, the exhibit showcases work that is conceptually thoughtful, technically skilled, and representative of contemporary trends in art. Wall work must be 3 feet wide maximum; there are no size restrictions for three-dimensional work. All work must not exceed 100 pounds and be ready to install. Accepted work should be original and completed within the past five years.
Applicants must submit 3-6 images (or up to 3 videos) of their work along with an artist statement. The entry fee is $35 for non-Pence members and $30 for members. Monetary awards will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes ($400, $300, and $200 respectively) based on the juror's selection. The juror is Julia Couzens, whose work is held in collections including the Berkeley Art Museum, Crocker Art Museum, Fine Art Museums of San Francisco, Oakland Museum of California, and Yale University.
Accepted work may be hand-delivered July 5-6 or shipped and insured by the artist by July 6. The exhibition runs July 12-August 18, 2019, with a reception on July 12 at 6-9 PM (awards at 7:30 PM). The Pence Gallery will insure all artwork while on premises through August 20. Work must be picked up or shipped between August 19-20. Sales are encouraged; the gallery retains a 40% commission on all work sold. Shipping expenses to and from the gallery are the artist's responsibility.
