Slice: A Juried Exhibit of Regional Art 2024

Slice is a juried exhibition now in its 12th year, open to artists residing in California. This open-theme exhibit displays art that is conceptually thoughtful, technically skilled, and representative of contemporary trends in art. Work may be in any medium except video or sound. For 2D work, pieces must not exceed 36" wide. Three-dimensional work has no size restrictions but must not exceed 75 lb. Works on paper are accepted if framed or equipped with hardware for safe display. Accepted work must be original, completed within the past five years, and remain at the Pence during the entire exhibit. Work must not have been previously shown at the Pence.

Applicants must submit 3 images of work, an artist statement, and resume at www.callforentry.org. The entry fee is $30 for Pence members or $35 for non-Pence members. Additional images may be juried for an additional $10 fee. The application deadline is May 13, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Applicants must be 18 years or older and reside in California.

Accepted work may be hand-delivered July 5-6, 11:30 AM - 4:30 PM, or shipped and insured by the artist to the Pence by July 3rd. The exhibition runs July 12 - August 18, 2024. The opening reception is Friday, July 12, 6-9 PM, with awards presented at 8 PM. Juror Robert Ortbal, Professor of Sculpture at California State University, Sacramento, will select merit award winners: 1st prize $400, 2nd prize $300, and 3rd prize $200. Two honorable mention prizes will receive a Muse level ($130) annual membership. The Pence Gallery will provide insurance for all artwork while on premises. Artists are responsible for shipping costs to and from the gallery unless the piece sells during the display. Sales are encouraged; the Pence Gallery retains a 40% commission on all work sold. Prices quoted on the entry form may not be changed after acceptance.
