Slice: A Juried Exhibit of Regional Art 2023

Slice is an open-theme juried exhibition now in its 11th year, open to artists residing in California. The exhibit showcases art that is conceptually thoughtful, technically skilled, and representative of contemporary trends in art. Work may be in any medium except video or sound. For 2D work, pieces must not exceed 36" wide. There are no size restrictions for three-dimensional work. All work must not exceed 75 lb. and must be ready to install. Works on paper are accepted if framed or equipped with hardware for safe display. Accepted work should be original and completed within the past five years, and must not have been previously shown at the Pence Gallery. Work must remain at the Pence during the entire exhibit.

Applicants must submit 1-6 images of work, an artist statement, and resume at www.callforentry.org. The application fee is $30 for Pence members or $35 for non-Pence members. The deadline for online submission is May 22, 2023 at 9 PM PST. Notification of acceptance will be sent via email on June 7. Accepted work may be hand-delivered June 30-July 1, 11:30 AM - 4:30 PM, or shipped and insured by the artist by June 30th. Shipping expenses are the artist's responsibility. The exhibition runs July 11 - August 20, 11:30 AM - 5 PM (closed Mondays), with a reception on Friday, July 14, 6-9 PM and awards at 7:30 PM. Work must be picked up or shipped between August 21-22.

Monetary awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes are $400, $300, and $200, respectively, selected by juror Kelly Lindner, Art Galleries and Collections Curator for University Galleries at California State University, Sacramento. Sales are encouraged; the Pence Gallery retains a 40% commission on all work sold. Prices quoted on the entry form may not be changed after acceptance. The Pence Gallery will provide insurance for all artwork while on premises through August 20.
