About This Call
Slice is a juried exhibition now in its 10th year, open to artists residing in California. This is an open theme juried exhibit showcasing art that is conceptually thoughtful, technically skilled, and representative of contemporary trends in art. Work may be in any medium except for video or sound, but must not exceed 36" wide for 2D work. There are no size restrictions for three-dimensional work. Work must not exceed 100 lb and must be ready to install. Works on paper are accepted providing they are framed or have hardware to safely display them. Accepted work should be original, completed within the past five years, and remain at the Pence during the entire exhibit. The work must not have been shown at the Pence previously.
Applicants must submit 1-3 images of work for review along with an artist statement. The entry fee is $30 for Pence members or $35 for non-Pence members. Submissions are due online by May 13, 2022 at 9 PM PST. Notification of acceptance will be sent May 26. Accepted work may be hand-delivered June 12-13, 11:30 AM - 4:30 PM, or shipped and insured by the artist to the Pence by June 13th. Shipping expenses are the responsibility of the artist. The exhibition will be displayed June 21-August 17, 11:30 AM - 5 PM (closed Mondays) in the Main Gallery, measuring 1000 square feet with 12' ceilings. A reception will be held Friday, July 8, 6-9 PM with awards at 7:30 PM. Monetary awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes are $400, $300, and $200. The Pence Gallery will provide insurance for all artwork while on premises through August 17. Work must be picked up or shipped between August 18-19. Sales are encouraged; the Pence Gallery retains a 40% commission on all work sold. The juror is Chris Daubert, an artist, writer, and curator based in California's Central Valley.
