Slice: A Juried Exhibit of Regional Art

Slice: A Juried Exhibit of Regional Art is now in its 13th year and is open to artists residing in California, ages 18 and up. This is an open-theme juried exhibit displaying art that is conceptually thoughtful, technically skilled, and representative of contemporary trends in art. Work may be in any medium except for video or sound, and must not exceed 36" wide for 2D work. There are no size restrictions for three-dimensional work, but work must not exceed 75 lb. Works on paper are accepted if they are framed or have hardware to safely display them. Accepted work should be original, completed within the past five years, and must not have been shown previously at the Pence. The work must remain at the Pence during the entire exhibit.

Applicants may submit up to 3 images of work for review, along with an artist statement and resume at www.callforentry.org. The entry fee is $30 for Pence members or $35 for non-members. The application deadline is May 16, 2025 at 9 PM PST. Notification of juried results will be sent by email on May 30. The exhibition will be displayed in the Main Gallery (1,000 square feet with 12' ceilings) from July 11 to August 17, 2025, 11:30 AM - 5 PM (closed Mondays). The opening reception is Friday, July 11, 6-9 PM, with awards presented at 8 PM.

This year's juror is Susie Kantor, Associate Curator & Exhibition Department Head at the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art at UC Davis. Monetary awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes are $400, $300, and $200 respectively. Two honorable mention prizes will receive a Muse level ($130) annual membership. Sales are encouraged; the Pence Gallery retains a 40% commission on all work sold. The Pence Gallery will provide insurance for all artwork while on the premises through August 19. Accepted work may be hand-delivered by July 3 or between July 5-6, 11:30 AM - 4:30 PM, or shipped and insured by the artist by July 3rd. Expenses for shipping to and from the gallery are the responsibility of the artist unless the piece sells during the display. Work must be picked up or shipped between August 18-19.
