Slice: A Juried Cross-Section of CA Art 2020

Slice is an open theme juried exhibition now in its 8th year, open to artists residing in California. The exhibit showcases art that is conceptually thoughtful, technically skilled, and representative of contemporary trends. Work may be in any medium, but 2D work must not exceed 36" wide. Three-dimensional work has no size restrictions but must not exceed 100 lb and be ready to install. Works on paper are accepted if framed or with hardware for safe display. Accepted work should be original, completed within the past five years, and remain at the Pence during the entire exhibit. Work must not have been previously shown at the Pence.

Applicants must submit 1-3 images of work, an artist statement, and pay a $35 entry fee ($30 for Pence members) via www.callforentry.org. Submissions are due by 9 PM PST on June 5, 2020. Accepted artists will be notified on June 12. Accepted work may be hand-delivered on July 5th (11:30 AM - 5 PM) or shipped and insured by the artist by July 3rd. The exhibition runs July 10 - August 16, 2020 (11:30 AM - 5 PM, closed Mondays) with an opening reception on Friday, July 10 at 6-9 PM and awards at 8 PM. Work must be picked up or shipped between August 17-18.

Monetary awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes are $400, $300, and $200. The Pence Gallery will insure all artwork while on premises through August 16. Sales are encouraged; the gallery retains a 40% commission on all work sold. Prices quoted on the entry form may not be changed after acceptance. The juror is Hearne Pardee, a Professor of Art Studio at UC Davis. The Pence is a nonprofit art gallery established in 1975, displaying work in the Main Gallery (1000 square feet with 12' ceilings).
