About This Call

Skyway 2020: A Contemporary Collaboration is an open call for artists and art collectives residing in Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, and Sarasota counties. This exhibition celebrates artistic practices in the Tampa Bay region through a collaboration between four institutions: the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg; The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, Sarasota; the Tampa Museum of Art; and the University of South Florida Contemporary Art Museum, Tampa. Curators from each institution will select artworks and projects, with guest juror Claire Tancons, an independent curator and scholar, contributing to the selection process.

Artists working in diverse media and disciplines are encouraged to submit, including work on paper, painting, sculpture, photography, video, performance, sound, research-based art, and site-specific installations. Artists working in social practice and community-based art initiatives are strongly encouraged to apply. Only original works completed after December 2017 will be considered. Selected artists will be presented at one of the four participating institutions. The submission deadline is September 3, 2019. There is no entry fee.

Submissions must include: artist statement (300 words max), biography (200 words max), CV with exhibition history (2 pages max), detailed image list, and up to 10 images representative of the artist's practice. For social practice and community-based initiatives, a project description including examples of past similar projects is required. Images should be JPEGs with a maximum file size of 5 MB, or alternatively 1 audio file or 2 video files. Artist selection and exhibition venue announcement will occur January 31, 2020. Exhibitions will open across the four institutions from late May to late June 2020. Exhibition receptions will be held at each institution during summer and fall 2020. Selected artists are responsible for all shipping arrangements and expenses, with round-trip shipping pre-paid.
