About This Call

The City of Greeley is seeking artist(s) to design and create artwork for a new skatepark. The budget for design, fabrication, delivery, and installation is $50,000. Artwork must be constructed with forms and materials that active skateboarders, rollerbladers, and/or BMXers will not damage if they ride on them. Art may be a creative element specifically designed to be ridden on, or may contribute to the placemaking of the skatepark through site-specific installations, artistic shelters, benches, entry arches, or similar elements. All media that can be skated or ridden on and can withstand Colorado's extreme weather changes will be considered, including concrete, metal, bulletproof glass, and lighting.

Applications must include: an artist resume showing previous experience working with project teams (architects, engineers, managers, community members) and experience with manufacture and installation of art appropriate for skateparks with 3 references; a letter of intent describing a suggested design approach and materials; 6 digital images of completed past work (conceptual drawings will not be reviewed); and an inventory sheet with descriptions of past work including title, medium, cost, dimensions, location, and date produced. Applications must be submitted by December 10, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Selected finalists will be notified by December 20, 2018.

One or more artists will be selected based on past work exhibiting appropriate style and materials, a strong letter of intent, and team experience. Selected artist(s) will work with a selection committee including members of the Greeley Art Commission, Parks & Culture staff, outside stakeholders, and possibly architects and engineers. The artist must attend a minimum of two meetings in Greeley, CO and submit two progress reports during design development. The final design must be original, include all details necessary for fabrication and installation, and be wet stamped by a structural engineer. Fabrication, delivery, and installation must be completed by spring or early summer of 2019.
