About This Call
The City of San José Office of Cultural Affairs' Public Art Program is seeking an experienced artist or artist team to submit Statements of Qualifications to develop a permanent Feature Wall artwork for the Norman Y. Mineta San José International Airport Terminal B in the pre-security area between Passenger Ticketing and Baggage Claim. The Airport's Art + Technology Program showcases innovation, diversity, and change through permanent technology-related artworks.
The Feature Wall is an 18'-7" wide by 7'-8" high low-relief sculptural installation in an active area between arrivals and departures on the main level. The site calls for a mechanical or static approach. Lighting-based and projected work is not practical due to ambient light conditions. Silent or very quiet actuation is required. The goal is to realize a dynamic signature artwork with demonstrated low-maintenance and robustness.
Up to three finalists will be selected to prepare Presentation Proposals and will each receive $1,000. One finalist will be selected to enter into an agreement with a total project budget not to exceed $290,000, including: Artist Fee of $30,000 for design proposal, construction documents, and presentations; Fabrication and Installation up to $245,000; and a $15,000 contingency. Work sample requirements: 8 images (required), 0-2 videos, 8-10 total samples. Application deadline: April 8, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Contact: Mary Rubin, City of San José Office of Cultural Affairs, 200 E. Santa Clara Street, San José, CA 95113.
