About This Call
Size Matters is a juried exhibition open to any artist at least 18 years of age living in the United States. The Arts Council is encouraging artists to experiment with scale for this exhibition. All 2D and 3D mediums are acceptable. Artwork should represent recognizable objects that have undergone a disorienting shift in size—such as chairs of dollhouse proportions or a postage stamp enlarged to the size of a billboard. The exhibition should prompt the viewer to feel gigantic and tiny in turns and pose serious questions to both the artist and viewer as to why scale is so important in art.
Up to 4 works may be entered per artist. Entry fees range from $20 for one entry, $25 for two entries, $30 for three entries, and $35 for four entries. Each submission must include 1-4 images and a general artist's statement of 150 words or less. Work must be completed within the last 3 years and must never have been shown or previously entered into any Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County exhibition. Work must be able to fit within the entryway of the building, with a maximum size of 82" x 32". Digital entries are submitted through www.callforentry.org by February 21, 2020. Artists will be notified of acceptance or non-acceptance no later than March 11, 2020. All work must be received by April 17, 2020.
The exhibition runs April 24 - May 16, 2020. Sales are encouraged, and the Arts Council will retain a 30% commission from the sales price. Items not for sale must be marked NFS (Not For Sale) with an insurance value provided. All work is insured while at the Arts Council. The juror is Jonathan Chestnut, M.F.A., Interim Chair of the Department of Performing and Fine Art at Fayetteville State University. $1,000 in total awards will be given. For information or assistance, contact Greg Weber at 910-323-1776 or [email protected].
