About This Call

Longmont Art in Public Places (AIPP) in collaboration with Longmont Sister Cities Association (LSCA) seeks a Colorado artist or artist team to create a site-specific sculpture for Flanders Neighborhood Park. The sculpture will serve as a gathering place to celebrate 25 years of Sister Cities partnership between Ciudad Guzmán, Mexico and Longmont, Colorado, and will highlight the vital role of the annual student exchange in the partnership. The gathering place will serve as a location for LSCA events and community use, overlooking McIntosh Lake and the twin peaks, Longs Peak and Mt. Meeker. The artwork must be designed to withstand harsh Colorado weather elements including ultraviolet rays, with an approximate site area of 625 square feet.

Up to three finalists will be selected to create concept proposals. Finalists will receive a $1,500 stipend to participate in the concept proposal process, which includes a site tour and opportunity to ask questions of staff and the Longmont Sister Cities Association. Artists living more than 75 miles from the Longmont Museum will receive an additional amount up to $250 for travel and lodging expenses. Finalists will present their concept proposals on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, to the Selection Committee. Concept proposals will be displayed at the Longmont Museum and online for public comment before final selection.

The selected artist or artist team will be responsible for designing, fabricating, transporting, and installing the artwork, with a budget not to exceed $40,000. This budget includes all design fees, fabrication, materials, equipment costs, professional fees, travel, lodging, insurance, overhead, site preparation, and installation costs. The artist must provide maintenance and conservation instructions for the completed artwork and work cooperatively with the City of Longmont Art in Public Places administrator. Applicants must submit 6-10 work samples (JPEG images), a CV/resume (no more than 3 pages, PDF), names and contact information for three to five professional references (PDF), and respond to two questions (no more than 1,000 words each) about their interest in the project and experience with site-specific sculpture installation projects. The opportunity is open to professional artists residing in Colorado, with slight preference given to artists living or working within the St. Vrain Valley School District boundaries.
