About This Call
The City of Coral Springs Public Art Program is requesting artist proposals for a commissioned interactive sculpture for the ArtWalk on NW 31st Court. The sculpture must be significant in size, family-oriented, iconic, and provide photo opportunities. The artwork should encourage spectators to walk in, on, and around it or become part of the artwork itself. Kinetic sculptures are not welcome. The sculpture must have a vertical minimum height of ten (10) feet and a dramatic aspect. The installation pad is 10 feet in diameter, plumbed for electric, raised and sloped on the sides 6 inches, and ADA accessible.
The artwork must be durable and require minimal ongoing maintenance, designed to withstand South Florida's subtropical climate with intense sun, humidity, and seasonal heavy rains. Materials should resist rust, fading, and high-speed winds. The artwork must be self-supporting on an open landscape, meet the Florida Building Code, and satisfy Hurricane Resistant Requirements. The selected artist will receive a budget of $97,000, which includes all taxes, fees, labor, transportation, and installation costs. The artist will also make recommendations regarding the permanent site design and present a public lecture on public art. The Public Art Committee will supply the pad and exterior lighting.
Applications are submitted through CaFé. The selection process has two rounds: the jury will shortlist three artists, each receiving an honorarium of $1,000. Shortlisted artists must submit detailed designs, 3D models with scaled plans and CAD drawings, site plans with perspective drawings, and itemized project budgets. Selection criteria include artistic merit, style and appropriateness to the community, technical feasibility, safety and maintenance considerations, and diversity in style and media. Contact Laura Atria at (954) 344-1162, (954) 344-1114, or [email protected] for questions.
