About This Call

The City of Mountain View Visual Arts Committee seeks to commission an artist or artist team to design and execute original artwork for the Shoreline Boathouse expansion and an additional opportunity at Shoreline Lake. The project budget is $121,200, and the VAC is open to selecting multiple art installations and/or multiple artists.

Applications must be submitted online via CaFÉ at www.callforentry.org by July 29, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. PST. Applicants must be professional artists or artist teams over 18 years old residing in California and must demonstrate successful completion of similar works. Applications should include: a current resume (no more than two pages), five to seven images of artworks completed within the past five years demonstrating capability for durable outdoor work, a design proposal with written description or sketches, online presence links if available, and a total fee proposal including all costs for design, fabrication, travel, transportation, structural engineering, insurance, and installation. All artwork images must include annotated descriptions with title, creation date, dimensions, media type, and installation location.

Art opportunities exist at three wall locations on the Boathouse site with specific dimensions and weight restrictions, and one additional location on a sustainably made bench at Shoreline Lake. Artists should consider materials suitable for significant exposure to sun, sand, wind, saltwater, rain, and recycled water. The City intends to bid construction in Spring 2025 with completion in late 2026, with artwork installation expected during the construction phase. The jurying process begins July 30, 2024, with finalist selection tentatively scheduled for the September VAC meeting, followed by City Council final approval. Selected artists must obtain a business license and insurance as required in the Sample Agreement.
