About This Call
MidPen Housing is hiring an experienced muralist to create imagery for the new entryway of a 62-unit apartment complex in Mountain View, CA. The designated mural wall is approximately 10' x 15'. The artist will be expected to reflect on the site and situation, meet with existing residents, and design and execute a lasting and welcoming mural for this growing community. The technique and materials used are variable according to the artist's direction and previous experience. Budget: $15,000 includes design review and mural execution.
Shorebreeze Apartments (460 N. Shoreline Boulevard) was originally constructed in 1997 and is undergoing renovation and expansion of the 5+ acre site, increasing available apartments for low-income residents by fifty units. The Jackson Park neighborhood is a peaceful and eclectic area containing a mix of small family homes, apartments, and light industrial activity, close to downtown, the Mountain View Caltrain station, and Stevens Creek Trail.
Artist resumes must indicate experience with outdoor mural composition and technical know-how for public-facing applications. Artists must demonstrate curiosity and sensitivity to existing residents, the history of the site, neighborhood and community of Mountain View, and consider feedback from the selection committee. The jury will be comprised of representatives of MidPen, Mountain View community members, and a local arts professional. Proposed timeline: Interviews in June, Design Review in July, Painting/Execution in August. Contact Art Consultant Melissa Smedley at 831-737-5360 or [email protected] for more information.
