About This Call
The Youth Wildflower Art Contest at Shenandoah National Park is open to all K-12 students in the following Virginia counties: Albemarle, Augusta, Greene, Madison, Page, Rappahannock, Rockingham, Shenandoah, and Warren. Public, private, city, and home-schooled students in these counties may participate.
Art entries must be a creative rendering of native spring wildflowers found in Shenandoah National Park. All entries must feature a species included on the provided checklist of eligible flowers. Entries must be flat media such as acrylic, watercolor, charcoal, or fabric. Artwork should not be mounted, matted, or framed. Photographs and computer-enhanced or computer-generated artwork will not be accepted. Each artist may only enter one piece. Entries must not be traced or copied from reference images, though plant photos from the park website or other sources may be used for reference.
Works will be judged on the basis of original design and artistic composition. Judges will select the top entries from each grade level, and one top entry will be selected as the "Best in Show." Art selected for top entries will be asked to submit a high resolution image of the artwork for an award video. Submissions must include 1-20 images. The entry deadline is May 4, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Contact [email protected] for questions.
