Sharing Space | Open Call for Exhibition at A2AC Gallery

The Ann Arbor Art Center announces an open call for artist submissions to Sharing Space, the inaugural exhibition of the A2AC Gallery 2022 Season. The exhibition runs May 19 - July 8, 2022 and will coincide with the grand opening of the Art Center's new 1200 sq. ft. street-level gallery and renovated studio spaces, located at 117 W. Liberty St. in downtown Ann Arbor.

Sharing Space invites artists to reflect on themes of intimacy, distance, connection, and comfort in relation to space and place. The exhibition explores how we think about space in times of isolation or transition, how we make space for ourselves and others, and how art making and creative expression can help reimagine shared spaces and craft more inclusive social environments. Works in any medium created in the last 2 years will be considered. Practitioners from any visual arts discipline (studio art, design, architecture, urban planning, etc.) are welcome. Individual artists and artist collaborations are open to local, regional, and national artists 18 years old and up.

Accepted artists will receive an honorarium of $100 to help defray production and shipping/transportation costs. The submission deadline is April 3, 2022. Applicants must submit up to 5 digital images of proposed work(s), approximate dimensions and weight, artist bio, and a work statement (no more than 1 page) explaining how the work relates to the exhibition theme. An optional description of how the project invites audience participation or community engagement may also be included. The entry fee is $25. In addition to the main gallery exhibition, artists may propose a single work/installation for the A2AC Window Gallery, a street-facing micro gallery (72" x 72" x 12") accessible to the public 24/7. Notification of acceptance will be sent by email April 11-15, 2022. Delivery is required no later than May 7, 2022. The opening reception is Friday, May 27, 2022, 6-9pm.
