About This Call
The City of O'Fallon's Shape of Community is a citywide, temporary sculpture exhibition featuring large-scale works of art in prominent areas throughout the city. Selected works will be loaned by artists for an 18-22 month period and displayed in public parks and communal spaces throughout O'Fallon.
Artists may submit up to 3 works (1 work per application), with a maximum of 10 images per sculpture. Submissions should include a resume, artist statement, and work samples, sent digitally to [email protected] with subject line "Shape of the Community." Selected artists will receive a $4,000 stipend paid in pre-arranged installments throughout the exhibition period. This stipend must cover all related costs, including installation materials, travel costs for delivery and pick-up, and insurance fees. Artists are responsible for delivering their work to the site and must be present during installation and de-installation. Artwork can be available for sale while on display, but all works must remain in place for the duration of the exhibit.
Works must meet specific technical requirements: weigh no more than 10,000 lbs, be no taller than 15 feet, fit within concrete pads measuring 4'x4' or 6'x6', be suitable for long-term outdoor display in all weather conditions, be maintenance-free and vandal-proof, be safe for public interaction including children, and be securely anchored with bolts provided by the artist. Most sites will not have electricity available. The Cultural Arts Commission will select ten works of art and up to four alternatives, with no more than one work selected per artist. Final selections require approval by O'Fallon City Council.
