Shades of Gray

Black Box Gallery is hosting a Black and White juried group photography exhibition. The theme celebrates the classic, nostalgic and dynamic qualities of black and white photography, exploring its important tradition of luminous, well-crafted and thoughtfully composed imagery. Contemporary photographers are invited to participate in this dialog of history and tradition while bringing their own modern voice, visions and aesthetics. Black Box is seeking a diversity of photographic works and ideas.

Juror Todd Johnson, founder and director of Black Box Gallery, holds an MFA in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute and has extensive experience as a portfolio reviewer and independent curator. The exhibition will run August 1-20, 2021, with 24 photographs selected for display at the gallery and an additional 30 photographs selected for the online gallery annex. All 54 photographs will be included in a catalog available for purchase on Blurb Books.

Black Box Gallery provides free printing, matting, and framing for all exhibitions using archival ink jet printing on premium luster photo paper. Selected photographers must provide high resolution TIFF or JPEG files. Exhibition prints will be kept in flat files after the show for future promotion and sales. The gallery takes a 50% commission on sales, with 50% going to the photographer. All rights remain with the photographer, and no sale or printing will occur without prior consent. Photographers will be notified 7-10 days after the deadline about juror selections. Entry fee: $40. Submit 1-5 images. International eligibility.
