About This Call
Gallery 2727 is a new cooperative art gallery in South Berkeley at 2727 California Street. The gallery's mission is to provide opportunities for emerging visual artists in the Bay Area to display and sell their work, supporting a vibrant community of artists of diverse styles, mediums, life experiences, and perspectives. The gallery is anticipated to be open every other month, with 6 shows and openings per year.
Membership benefits include a bright, open gallery space to exhibit and sell work; promotion through the gallery's contact list and local media; access to potential buyers through the website; a 70% commission to the artist on sales; mentorship from experienced artists; workshops, demonstrations and talks; business and professional skills development; and networking opportunities with members, curators, gallerists, and the public.
Members share responsibility for staffing the gallery for a designated number of hours per month. Membership dues are $75 for the first year and yearly renewal (fee may be waived based on need). Members serve on a committee of their choice (exhibits, selection of new members, marketing, etc.) and are expected to attend opening receptions and occasional meetings. When exhibiting, members deliver work ready for installation and hang and remove their own artwork. Members are encouraged to maintain insurance coverage for their work.
Applications require: Artist Membership Application, Resume, Artist Statement (200 words or less), Letter of Interest, and 5-6 images. Applicants should include any special skills that may assist in gallery operations. Applications will be reviewed online by a Selection Committee, and applicants may be invited to an interview and artwork review conducted either online or in-person. Eligibility is limited to SF Bay Area artists.
