About This Call
The San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) is issuing Requests for Qualifications for artists for art projects in stations being upgraded. Five projects are currently selecting artists: Market Street Canopy Project (open to artists residing in U.S.), Lake Merritt Plaza/Transit Operations Facility (open to artists residing in California), Walnut Creek Station Access Improvements (open to artists residing in California), Dublin/Pleasanton Station - Iron Horse Trail Access Enhancement (open to artists residing in 9 Bay Area Counties), and Concord Station Modernization (open to artists residing in California).
The Market Street Canopy project seeks up to four artists to create bas relief designs for the underside of new fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) canopies at four stations along Market Street in San Francisco (Embarcadero, Montgomery, Powell, and Civic Center). The other four projects seek an artist as design team member to participate in community engagement and identify opportunities for art integration into station elements. Artists applying for the Market Street Canopy project are not required to have design team experience and will not be placed in the pool for future opportunities. All other qualified applicants will become part of a pool to participate on design teams for future project selections for up to three years.
This RFQ is open only to artists or artist-led teams residing in the United States with legal working status. Applicants must submit 4-10 images. Selected artists will be required to waive their rights of integrity under the California Art Preservation Act and Visual Artists Rights Act, retain copyright to their work while granting BART certain reproduction rights, and adhere to the Model Agreement for Art Design Services. Submission deadline: March 5, 2018, 10:00 PM Pacific Standard Time. Contact: [email protected]
