About This Call
Serendipity is a juried exhibition featuring artworks where unexpected discoveries occurred in the process of or in connection with art making. The exhibit aims to present artworks that demonstrate how accidents, chance, and discovery benefit the creative process and final artwork. All explorations of this theme are invited. Artworks in all media, techniques, and styles are encouraged.
Eligibility is open to artists 21 years of age and older living in the St. Louis, Missouri region and surrounding 200-mile radius. Jurors are Ken Botnick, Director of the Kranzberg Book Studio and Professor of Art at Washington University in St. Louis, and Melissa Whitwam, Executive Director and Exhibitions Manager of the Foundry Art Centre in St. Charles, MO. The exhibition will be held at Art Saint Louis Gallery, 1223 Pine Street in downtown St. Louis, from August 5 to September 15, 2016, with a free reception on Saturday, August 5, 2016, 6-8 p.m.
Submissions are limited to 3 original artworks completed between 2013-2016 that have not been previously exhibited in the St. Louis region within 6 months prior to the exhibit or at Art Saint Louis Gallery. Works must not exceed 6 feet wide or 7 feet tall (including frame). Five cash awards will be selected: one $250 Best of Show Award of Excellence and four $100 Awards of Excellence. Award recipients will be eligible for the Honor Awards 2017 curated exhibit. Entry fee is $35 for non-members or $20 for ASL members. Judging is done online by JPEG submissions only, limited to 2 images per artwork (1 full view and either 1 detail or 1 alternate view). All artworks must have a sale price or be marked Not for Sale with an insurance value of 50% retail. Art Saint Louis retains 30% commission on sales, with 70% going to the artist.
