About This Call
Art Works Downtown seeks submissions for a juried exhibition titled "Sense of Place" to be presented in its 1337 Gallery from June 14–July 26, 2019. The exhibition is open to all visual-art interpretations and mediums and explores the concept of place, including viewpoints regarding impermanence, security, immigration, housing, pride, and cohabitation.
Eligibility is limited to San Francisco Bay Area artists who live within 100 miles of San Rafael, California. All visual arts media are accepted, though video submissions must include player, monitor, and earphones; projections and noise are prohibited. Artwork must not exceed 72" in any dimension, including frame and all materials. Only original artwork is accepted; no reproductions, though editions are acceptable. Submissions must not have previously exhibited in the AWD 1337 Gallery. The entry fee is $40 for a maximum of 3 entries, with discounts available for AWD Artist Members.
Submissions are made through CallForEntry.org only; hardcopy, email, and disk submissions are not accepted. Entries are due by 5/17 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Notification will be sent by email on 5/24 or 5/25. Accepted work must be hand-delivered to Art Works Downtown, 1337 Fourth St., San Rafael between 1pm–4pm on 6/8. Work must be ready for installation with artist name and title labeled on the back; wall-hung work must be securely wired. Artists must deliver an artist statement and resume and sign a consignment contract upon delivery. Unsold artwork may be picked up 7/27 between 10am–2pm. Art Works Downtown retains a 40% donation upon sale, with payment to artists within two weeks of the exhibition end. The juror is Griff Williams, owner and director of Gallery 16 in San Francisco.
