About This Call
Artists worldwide are invited to submit work that depicts the color red. From cave paintings to modern day, red has been used throughout history to create powerful works of art, representing strong emotions like love, passion, fear, and anger. Its meaning and roles hold significant symbolism and psychology—used to warn of impending danger, represent life and sacrifice as the color of blood, strike fear, and empower and dominate. This exhibit will be hung in the Owl Hall and Connector Hallway in the Education Wing. All media will be considered except film.
The show runs from January 8 to March 1, 2020. Entry deadline is December 6, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Notification of acceptance will be sent by December 20, 2019. A reception will be held on Friday, January 10 from 5-7pm. Work may not exceed 320 square inches and must be available for the entire exhibition. Framed work must be fitted firmly in frame with wire for hanging; no loose glass over mats. Gallery wrapped canvases are permitted. Poorly presented work will not be hung. Work that is copied or done under the guidance of an instructor is not eligible.
Entry fee is $20 for the first entry and $5 for each additional entry, with a maximum of 20 entries. Payment is non-refundable and does not guarantee acceptance. This call is open to artists worldwide, both amateur and professional. All works should be for sale. Members of the Cultural Center are charged a 30% commission on all sales; non-members are charged 40%. Shipping, return shipping, and handling fees are the responsibility of the artist. All artwork must arrive by Monday, January 6, 2020 and no sooner than Thursday, January 2, 2020. Unsold work may be picked up on Monday, March 2 between 9am-5pm, or shipped back during the week of March 2-6, 2020. Juror selection is by Director's choice; no personal feedback is given by jurors.
