About This Call
The MVA Gallery (Modern Visual Arts) invites artists, photographers, and sculptors of all levels (emerging to established) to submit original artwork to this exhibition. This is a national call for entries exploring the color red—a powerful and essential color with rich historical and cultural significance. Red is considered a color of intense emotion, associated in the West with anger, sacrifice, aggression, heat, love, and passion, while in Asia it symbolizes happiness and good fortune. Artists are invited to explore how they utilize red in their work: Does the color permeate the entire image or appear in small sections? Does it appear in objects, nature, or abstract design? Is red purely decorative or a defining structural device? No restrictions on subject matter or style exist. All approaches—traditional or non-traditional, representational or non-representational—are acceptable. The gallery accepts painting, watercolor, printmaking, mixed media, digital, pastel, encaustic, sculpture, fiber, drawing, and photography.
Submission is exclusively through CAFE (CallForEntry) at https://www.callforentry.org. Entry fee is $35.00 for 3 different images, with additional images available for $5.00 each up to a maximum of 9 images. All images must be JPEG format, under 5 MB, with a minimum of 1200 pixels on the longest side. Artists should provide title, medium, size, price, and year of completion. Artwork specifications include: paintings must have stretched wire attached to the back (sawtooth hangers not acceptable); artwork should not exceed 48 inches (framed) on the longest side or weigh more than 45 lbs; sculpture should not exceed 24 inches on any dimension; photographs should be framed with black or white frames preferred. Artists are responsible for all shipping and insurance costs both to and from the gallery.
Notification to artists will be sent by email on or about October 9, 2024. Accepted artwork must arrive at the gallery no later than December 5, 2024. The exhibition runs December 8, 2024 through January 11, 2025. Awards include an "Art of Distinction" Award featuring a special exhibition, an Annual Grand Prize offering a New York City exhibition opportunity, and a Director's Choice Award of $200. For sales, artists receive 70% of the final sale price and the gallery receives 30%. Artists retain all rights to submitted images and artwork.
