Second Annual OPENINGS Online Photo Competition

Decagon Gallery invites all photographers over 18 to submit their photographs to the second annual OPENINGS online exhibition. The theme of "Openings" can be interpreted in various ways, including physical openings such as doorways, windows, or tunnels, or metaphorical openings such as opportunities, beginnings, or breakthroughs. Photographers can also explore the idea of openings in a more abstract manner, such as through the use of light and shadow, negative space, or unconventional angles.

Entries will be judged based on creativity, composition, relevance to the theme, and overall impact. Participants can submit 4 to 10 original photographs in jpg, jpeg, or png format, with images formatted to be at least 2000 pixels on the long side. The entry fee is $20 for 4 images and $4 for each additional image. Those experiencing financial hardship or living in a war zone may contact the gallery for a reduced entry fee.

Cash prizes are awarded to the top three entries: First Place receives $300 and a free online exhibit in the FEATURED section of the gallery; Second Place receives $200; Third Place receives $100. Selected photographs will be featured in an online exhibition and across the gallery's social media platforms. An exhibition catalogue will be available for purchase from a print-on-demand service, and the exhibit will be edited into a 4 to 5 minute video posted on the gallery's YouTube channel. All accepted entries will receive digital badges suitable for promoting on social media. Submissions open June 1, 2024, with a deadline of July 18, 2024. Notification of acceptance is August 1, 2024, with exhibition dates running August 1 through September 30, 2024. For inquiries, contact [email protected].
