About This Call
The Community Redevelopment Agency of Jacksonville Beach is seeking proposals for a mural, single or multi-dimensional, that highlights the pedestrian friendly, beach life, and growing entrepreneurial spirit of Jacksonville Beach. The mural will activate a space in the downtown to encourage safe and friendly pedestrian usage. The agency is installing 6 bright colored surfboard bicycle racks along the backside of the Pavilion. The mural can play off the surfing theme at the artist's discretion. The piece should be reflective of the beach life brand and natural elements located within the community, and should entice use and engage the community in a positive way.
Applicants must have experience creating, fabricating, and installing public art with reviewable portfolios. Artists should have proven experience creating durable outdoor public art pieces, working within the public process, and the ability to fabricate their own work or work with fabricators and installers. Artists working in a variety of materials are encouraged to apply, including stone, metal, wood, concrete, found objects, natural materials, plastics, fiberglass, light, and sound.
Submission requirements include an artist statement, current resume emphasizing public art experience, minimum 8 images of completed projects (up to 2 videos), a colorized sketch or computer rendering of the concept design shown from front, back, and side with dimensions included, and a narrative describing artwork symbolism, intention, and technical detail (500-word maximum). Selected artists must be available to visit the site in person for potential client engagement during the project period, be over 18 years old, obtain required general commercial liability insurance coverage, and provide one year of maintenance upon completion. Budget: $50,000.
