About This Call

The Next Fifty Arts, Culture and Design Committee seeks proposals for temporary arts, culture and design projects to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1962 World's Fair at Seattle Center. Projects should honor the past, celebrate the present and envision the future, using the theme "Illuminating Today's Challenges, Imagining Tomorrow's Possibilities." Arts, Culture and Design activities will take place from April 21st to October 21st, 2012, at designated sites on or immediately adjacent to the Seattle Center Campus.

Selected individuals, teams and organizations will develop new temporary projects sited at Seattle Center. Project duration could range from one day to six months, with examples including exhibitions, installations, demonstrations, concerts, speakers and symposia, performances, readings, screenings, participatory experiences, and multi-disciplinary events. The 74-acre Seattle Center offers diverse spaces including green spaces, theaters, exhibit spaces, and public walkways. Consideration should be given to experiencing work during day and night, across three seasons, and at various elevations including pathways, plazas, courtyards, green spaces, walls, roofscapes, airspace, and interior spaces.

Eligibility includes individual artists or teams of artists and designers, curators, and nonprofit organizations with missions in arts, culture or design. National and international artists/curators/groups are welcome. The total projected budget for all projects is $500,000, with $75,000 reserved for youth-led projects (individuals 24 years and younger). Approximately 20 projects will be selected with budgets ranging from $1,000 to $50,000, inclusive of all costs. The application process follows a two-tiered approach: initial Letter of Intent with resume/profile and work samples (16 images maximum, 5 applications allowed), followed by invitation to submit a Final Proposal for selected applicants.
