About This Call
The City of Blue Springs Public Art Commission is seeking artists for a temporary public art exhibition titled "Seasons." Four artists will be selected to provide works of art for exterior display along Adams Dairy Parkway in the southeastern corridor of Blue Springs, near the intersection with Moreland School Road. The exhibition will run for one year, from April 1, 2024 to March 2, 2025, with installation between March 26-29, 2024.
Artworks should relate to the artist's conception of "Seasons," which may include concepts such as spring (new beginnings), summer (growth), fall (change and maturity), or winter (passing or rest). Media can include bronze, stone, wood, metal, ceramic, mosaic, or other materials suitable for exterior display. Kinetic, solar, neon, or interactive art is encouraged. Artworks should be appropriate in size and height for the site and easily visible while walking, biking, or driving. Artists are responsible for transporting and installing their work and removing it after the exhibition if not purchased. Artwork must be durable and require no maintenance during the 11-month exhibition period.
Each selected artist will receive an honorarium of $2,500 for the exhibition. The Public Art Commission reserves the right of first refusal for any artwork purchase; if purchased, the $2,500 will be credited toward the purchase price. In the past, one or more artworks have been purchased from each exhibition to remain in the city as permanent art. Artists will be interviewed and videotaped during installation for promotional purposes and invited to attend a dedication event in June 2024. Artworks will be promoted in local and regional publications and featured on the City of Blue Springs website.
Applications must include a letter of interest, current resume, and 4-6 digital images representative of the artist's body of work with titles, dimensions, materials, and sale prices. One optional video file may be included. The call is open to all professional artists over the age of eighteen; emerging and professional artists are encouraged to apply. Contact Justin Stuart at [email protected] or 816-228-0137 for questions.
