Sea of Change Mid-Atlantic

The Virginia Beach Art Center invites submissions for Sea of Change Mid-Atlantic, a showcase of all media artwork from the Mid-Atlantic states (SC, NC, VA, DC, MD, WV, DE, NJ & PA). The exhibition celebrates the beauty of regional waterways while addressing climate change and environmental concerns. The exhibition will be displayed both in the gallery and online on the Art Center's website.

The exhibition is juried by Gary Ryan, Executive Director of the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art, and features $2000 in total awards: Best in Show ($750), Award of Excellence ($500), Award of Merit ($250), Most Creative ($200), and three Honorable Mentions ($100 each). The opening reception is September 4, 6-8 pm, with a livestream at 7 pm on the Virginia Beach Art Center's Facebook page. The exhibition runs September 4-27, 2020, with optional artist talks on September 27, 2-4 pm.

Eligibility: Open to artists 18 or older residing in the Mid-Atlantic region. All media welcome. Work must be original, created without instructor or kit assistance, produced within the last five years, and not previously exhibited at VBAC. All styles and aesthetics considered. Artists must submit an interpretative statement (limit 700 characters). Entry fee: $35 for up to three works (non-refundable). Artists may submit up to three artworks with a maximum of three photos. All work must be for sale and remain on premises for the exhibition duration. Commission split: 65% to artist, 35% to Virginia Beach Art Center. Work limitations: maximum 40 pounds; 2D works may not protrude more than 12" from wall and must be wired for hanging; 3D works may not exceed 24" in length or width. Shipped works must arrive August 26-31, 2020; hand-delivered works accepted August 29-September 1, 2020. Artists are responsible for return shipping and must provide pre-paid return labels.
