About This Call
This program for student artists is a collaboration between Governor Noem and the South Dakota Arts Council, a state agency organized under the South Dakota Department of Tourism.
Eligible participants are current K-12 students who live in South Dakota and attend a public school, private school, or homeschool. Artwork submissions can be made by the student or on behalf of the student by an art teacher, classroom teacher, or home-school teacher. Categories are determined by grade: Kindergarten-Grade 2, Grades 3-5, Grades 6-8, and Grades 9-12. Each entry must be original in concept, design, execution, and medium, and must not violate U.S. copyright laws. Entries copied from existing photos or images created by someone other than the student will not be accepted.
Eligible mediums for two-dimensional artwork include paintings (oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc.), drawings (colored pencil, pencil, ink, marker, pastels, charcoal), collages, prints (lithographs, silkscreen, block prints), mixed media, computer-generated art, and photographs. Artwork must be able to be matted and framed without protruding more than 4 inches from a wall. Three-dimensional artwork is accepted if it can be framed in this manner. Each artwork must be no larger than 36 inches by 48 inches and 4 inches deep. Framed pieces should weigh 15 pounds or less. Submissions should be uploaded as .JPG files (1,200 pixels or greater on the longest side, under 5 MB, sRGB). Up to 20 images per category per username can be submitted.
