SCWS 44th Annual National Exhibition

The South Carolina Watermedia Society (SCWS) invites artists 18 years and older to submit work for its 44th Annual National Exhibition. Since its founding in 1977, SCWS has promoted the artistic and professional interests of its members and provided visual arts programs and education to the public. This high-caliber juried exhibition draws national participation and is juried by Frederick C. Graff, a Signature Member of the American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, and Transparent Watercolor Society of America.

Entry deadline is June 20, 2021. Entry fee is $60 ($20 for additional pieces); current SCWS members may enter their first piece free with a coupon. Students may join at $25 with proof of official school identification. Submissions must be original watermedia works (watercolor, acrylic, gouache, etc.) painted within two years of entry, not previously displayed in a SCWS exhibition. Maximum size is 48" in either direction including frame, with maximum depth of 2¾" and weight of 25 lbs. Works on paper must be glazed with plexiglas/acrylic (1/8"); frames must be natural wood museum-style, maximum 2¾" wide (no black, white, or metal frames). Collage is acceptable if primarily painted; oils and water-soluble oils are not permitted. Submit 1-2 digital images via CallforEntry.org.

Acceptance notification is July 2, 2021. The exhibition runs August 2 to September 24, 2021 at Pickens County Museum, 307 Johnson Street, Pickens, SC. A public reception and awards ceremony is August 28, 2021. Over $4,000 in awards and prizes will be distributed. Only one painting per artist may be accepted. Award-winning work will be displayed on the SCWS website and may be included in a statewide traveling exhibition coordinated by the SC State Museum. Artists selected for the traveling show may opt out. If work sells, SCWS receives a 30% commission. Artists must carry their own insurance; SCWS and the museum are released from liability for loss or damage.
