About This Call
The 188-acre Lowe Park was once an established crop and livestock farm with original 1950s buildings. Citizens are committed to the park's master plan that celebrates art and environment with daily outdoor recreation, concerts, indoor art classes and exhibits, musical and stage performances, community gatherings, and a variety of gardens throughout the property.
The sculpture site will be at the east end, 10th Street entrance, the most established entrance to the park. The goal is to have a piece that will draw visitors into the park and act as a focal point, providing a first impression of what lies ahead. The piece must complement and be in harmony with the commitment to rehabilitate the landscape to an original Iowa prairie oak and savanna, encompassing the Iowa openness of space with a full view of sunrise and sunset.
The award could vary from a modest sculpture close to $10,000 up to a large installation near $55,000. Each award, if more than one is chosen, will be structured as a lump sum all-inclusive "design-build" contract. The total amount awarded will be based upon final costs submitted and the selection of the piece(s) by the Art Selection Panel and the Marion Arts Council. Applicants must submit 3-6 images. Event dates: 5/12/16 - 9/12/16.
