About This Call
Sebastopol Center for the Arts and Piazza Hospitality invite artists to submit work for a public art exhibition exploring the theme of Belonging. The exhibit will delve into connections between people and places, the bonds that tie individuals to a community, and the universal search for connectedness. Work will be exhibited outdoors in an empty lot in downtown Sebastopol, a vibrant town celebrated for its artistic spirit and dedication to fostering community.
Artists are encouraged to submit sculptures, site-specific artworks, or installations that interpret the concept of "belonging" in diverse and meaningful ways, reflecting on themes such as belonging to a small town and the Sebastopol community, the significance of feeling connected, the role of community in shaping identity, a sense of place and connection to the natural and built environment, and environmental sustainability. All mediums are accepted, but work must be weather proof. Preference is given to art that activates the space and viewers' engagement with the space. The site is an empty field surrounded by a chain link fence where work will sit on earth, grass, or gravel.
Open to artists worldwide. Maximum of 3 pieces of artwork per artist. Entry fee is $10. All work must have been completed in the last 3 years. Artists are responsible for delivering and installing work on site by April 28, 2025. Submissions must include 3-10 images (5MB or less, JPEG format) with dimensions and weight. For site-based pieces, submit images/videos showing related work or a drawing/digital mock-up. For installations or tech-based pieces, include equipment needs and what the artist will provide. For video submissions, limit documentation to 1:30 minutes or a 2-minute excerpt with a link to the whole piece. Exhibition dates: May 1 - October 31, 2025. Notifications to artists: April 11, 2025. Opening reception: May 3, 2025. Contact: Damian Estrella at [email protected] or 707-829-4797 x 1003.
