About This Call

Sculpture on the Lawn is the 9th annual outdoor sculpture exhibition held at the Orange County Administration Center, 201 S. Rosalind Avenue, Orlando, FL. The exhibition features sculptures displayed at the entrance to the Administration Center, visible to approximately 10,000 people daily. Up to four sculptures will be selected for display from January 2024 to January 2025.

The call is open to experienced professional sculptors as well as students and emerging artists who specialize in the design, construction, and installation of outdoor sculptures. Selection criteria focus on creativity, site appropriateness, and durability. Sculptures must be structurally sound and able to withstand Orlando's subtropical climate, including intense sun, seasonal heavy rains, and hurricane-force winds. Orange County provides 12' x 12' concrete pads, and sculptures must be firmly secured to the pads. For the first time, sculptures may include electrical components in addition to permanently located illuminating spotlights. There is a 6-foot minimum height preference with no maximum height limit.

Each selected artist will receive a $5,000 honorarium as a fee for the annual loan of artwork and to help offset transportation, installation, and housing costs. Payment of $4,000 will be made upon installation and $1,000 upon removal. Orange County will insure artwork up to its stated value or $50,000, whichever is less, for theft or major vandalism. Artists are responsible for transportation to the site and for any repairs due to fabrication defects or reasonable wear and tear. Submissions must include 1-6 images of finished works or conceptual drawings. Artists may submit 1-5 sculpture applications, with each sculpture submitted separately. Installation is scheduled for January 18, 2024, with an opening reception on January 19, 2024. Sculpture removal is January 16, 2025. Contact: Dawn Knight, Public Art Coordinator, at [email protected] or 407-836-5540.
