About This Call

Orange County Arts & Cultural Affairs and the Public Art Review Board invite artists to submit work for the 8th annual Sculpture on the Lawn exhibition, an outdoor display at the entrance to the Orange County Administration Center (201 S. Rosalind Avenue, Orlando, FL 32801). The exhibition is visible to approximately 10,000 people daily. Up to four sculptures will be selected for display from January 2023 to January 2024.

The exhibition is open to experienced professional sculptors as well as students and emerging artists who specialize in the design, construction and installation of outdoor sculptures. Selection criteria focus on creativity, site appropriateness, and durability. Images of finished works and conceptual drawings can be submitted. Works will be reviewed for durability, safety, and appropriateness to the site. Artworks must be structurally sound and able to withstand an outdoor environment in a subtropical climate with hot, humid conditions, intense sun, seasonal heavy rains, and hurricane-force winds. Orange County provides 12' x 12' concrete pads, and sculptures must be firmly secured to the pads. There is a 6-foot minimum height preference with no maximum height limit.

Each selected artist will receive a $5,000 honorarium as a fee for the annual loan of artwork and to help offset transportation, installation, and housing costs. Payment of $4,000 will be made upon installation and $1,000 upon removal. Orange County will insure artwork up to its stated value or $50,000 (whichever is less) for theft or major vandalism once installed. The artist is responsible for transportation to the site and for any repairs needed due to fabrication defects or reasonable wear and tear. Sales of works are encouraged with no commission charged. Each artist may submit 1-5 sculpture applications, with each sculpture submitted as a separate application. Submit 1-3 images of finished works or conceptual drawings. Clearly indicate if work is existing or conceptual and remove artist names and watermarks from images. Deadline: Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at midnight MT. Notification of acceptance by July 20, 2022. Installation January 1-31, 2023. Sculpture removal January 1-31, 2024. Contact: Dawn Knight, Public Art Coordinator, at [email protected] or 407-836-5540.
