About This Call

Call to Artists for Sculpture on the Lawn 2022, the 7th annual outdoor sculpture exhibition. Artists are invited to submit work—existing or conceptual—for display at the entrance to the Orange County Administration Center (201 S. Rosalind Ave.) in downtown Orlando, Florida, where works are visible to approximately 10,000 people daily. The exhibition is open to experienced professional sculptors as well as students and emerging artists. Up to four sculptures will be selected for display from January 2022 to January 2023, with one sculpture selected from a student or emerging artist if suitable.

Submit applications, resumes, images and other materials by May 10, 2021 (midnight MT) through CaFÉ online service. Work sample requirements: minimum 1 image, maximum 6 images; audio and video are optional (maximum 1 each). Images of finished works and conceptual drawings can be submitted. If the proposed project is not a finished work, provide information to assure the Selection Panel of what it will look like and that it will be completed and installed as designed by January 2022, along with examples of past work. Selection criteria focus on creativity, site appropriateness, and durability. Notification of acceptance will be on or before May 31, 2021.

Selected artists receive a $3,500 honorarium as a fee for the annual loan of artwork to help offset transportation, installation, and housing costs ($3,000 upon installation and $500 upon removal). Orange County will insure artwork up to its stated value or $50,000, whichever is less, for theft or major vandalism. Artists are responsible for repairs due to fabrication defects or reasonable wear and tear. Sculptures must be structurally sound and able to withstand outdoor conditions in Orlando's subtropical climate (hot, humid, intense sun, seasonal heavy rains, and hurricane-force winds). Orange County provides 12-by-12-foot concrete pads; sculptures must be firmly secured. Minimum 6-foot height preference with no maximum height limit. Sales of works are encouraged with no commission charged; sculptures must remain on site until January 2023. For further information, contact Dawn Knight, Public Art Coordinator, at [email protected] or 407-836-5540.
