About This Call

Sculpture on the Lawn is the fifth annual outdoor sculpture exhibition featured at the entrance to the Orange County Administration Center (201 S. Rosalind Ave.) in downtown Orlando, Florida, where works are visible to approximately 10,000 people daily. The exhibition is open to experienced professional sculptors as well as students and emerging artists who specialize in the design, construction and installation of outdoor sculptures. Up to three sculptures will be selected for display from October 2019 to September 2020, with one sculpture selected from a student or emerging artist if suitable.

Artists may submit images of finished works or conceptual drawings. Submissions must include 1-6 images. If proposing a conceptual work, artists must provide information to assure the Selection Panel of what it will look like and that it will be completed and installed as designed. Selection criteria focus on creativity, site appropriateness, and durability. Artworks must be structurally sound and able to withstand Orlando's subtropical climate with intense sun, seasonal heavy rains, and hurricane-force winds. Orange County provides 12-by-12-foot concrete pads, and sculptures must be firmly secured to the pads. Minimum height preference is 6 feet with no maximum height limit.

Selected artists will receive a $3,500 honorarium as a fee for the annual loan of artwork and to help offset transportation, installation, and housing costs. Payment of $3,000 will be made upon installation and processing of required paperwork, and $500 will be paid upon removal. Orange County will insure artwork up to its stated value or $50,000, whichever is less, for theft or major vandalism. Artists are responsible for repairs due to fabrication defects or reasonable wear and tear. Selected artists must transport and install the artwork on the specified date with minimal assistance, then remove it after the exhibition. Sales of works will be encouraged and promoted with no commission charged. Applications deadline is July 1, 2019 at midnight. Notification of acceptance will be July 12, 2019. Installation occurs October 1-12, 2019, with an opening reception on October 21, 2019 at 5:30-6:30 p.m. Sculpture removal is October 1-11, 2020.
